WorldSwing Week 57
First Venue
Transylvania Country Club
Created May 2002,
Transylvania Country Club is Mike Bellini's unique experience. Here, we are in Romania after our time in Germany, and we get a taste of the locals having a poke of fun at us to present 18 holes of anxiety. You won't be able to decide if you are really on your way to doom, just playing badly, or if the locals are watching you on video for a reaction. Here you will enjoy blood red water, an eerie sky, and a peek at Castle Dracula.
Enjoy this odd, yet really fun trip! I am sad that this is Mike's only course in the database.

Hole 10 from the fairway, looking at the infamous castle.

Hole 8, par 4, with an example of a lake full of blood...or maybe just red dye.

Hole 4, a downhill par 3. There are many holes with some elevation changes. I like them.

WorldSwing Week 57
Second Venue
Abbot's Bridge
Staying in eastern Europe, we are in the former Czech republic at another Voyen Koreis classic,
Abbot's Bridge. Stunning views greet you as you take on a decently challenging variety of holes. You will need all your clubs to win on the 7017 yards, par 72 that awaits you, and see if you don't agree that a course like this, made in June 1999 does stand the test of time, and looks as fresh now as it did when released 25 years ago.

Dramatic plunge on the par 3 hole 14

Approach shot on hole 5. There are many challenging par 4's here.

The par 5 hole 15 provides two fairways to the green, divided by trees. I took both this week, and I'm still not sure I understand why the more risky narrow fairway to the right is worth not just going left. I suggest you do both and answer that question for me!?

I've always loved the elevation changes and undulations on Voyen's courses.

First Venue
Alpine Cliffs
Welcome to Italy and the Alps. Thank you Michael "Babybull" Conner, for this top level beauty
Alpine Cliffs which graced our game in June 2014. This one is 6992 yards, par 72, and as you would expect has a lot of elevation work. You'll want to take a moment to see the sights with each swing of your club. Taken with the last course on our tour, you'll be hard pressed to find a better pair.
Be very careful with club choices, as many of the fairways slope down towards the greens and there are hazards if you stray too far off the short grass.

Golf Club des Volcans
Welcome to France and the work of Dominique Bois from March 2000,
Golf Club des Volcans. Low trees and fairly wide fairways make this an exercise in working to play your short irons. Strong winds creates an issue, and the greens are not easy. Dominique gave us many courses including:
Annonay Gourdan
Benstenwood
Broken Arrow (short)
L'ansee a Coco
amongst others.

First Venue
Golf Club Bergamo L'Albenza
From Andrea Cavallari we have this Italian golf course released October 2000. Its a nice playing design, without the bells and whistles, but solid for repeated plays. The only odd thing is that for some reason, no matter how many times I've played it, including with different golfers, it will not save a .round file. I've never come across this before on other courses and I can't seem to find a work around.
So, play the course, but you'll have to assume you arrived too late to the tee to join me!

Saint Vincent
Welcome to Golf de Bourgogne,
Saint Vincent in France. You will need the local wine to mentally deal with some of the green challenges you will face, but I hear its good, and tous les fromages sont excellents aussi mon ami! Manuel Kellner gave us this gem in 2000, and its par 71, 7523 yards. No snafu this time with the saving of round files, so looks like you can play along. I was rather inconsistent...
Mr. Kellner gave us some rather fantastic courses, often in places not populated with other golf courses. I am very thankful for his gift to our library.
