WorldSwing Week 48
Second Venue
Druid's Glen

7121. That many yards on this par 71 course created Oct 2010 by Del "Breezer" Skilton. Druid's Glen, the "Augusta" of Ireland is a real world course in County Wicklow, Ireland. Its just a bike ride south of Dublin.

From the wiki:
"The "Druids Glen Golf Course", opened in 1995,[3] and was the venue for the Irish Open between 1996 and 1999, and the 2002 Seve Trophy. The second course on the site is the "Druids Heath Golf Course", which opened in 2003 and has hosted 'the Irish PGA'."

Breezer (w/Charlene) brought us Mount Kongur at the beginning portion of our tour amongst a couple handful of other courses.

Enjoy a couple of rounds here, and beware of tough putting! Overall, I think the fog makes the course look better, masking the distant backgrounds a bit for a more realism. The layout is good.

I will be detouring us back to England to catch a makeup round at Charlie Robert's Kilcairn Bay. Somehow I forgot we had a tee time there. So after that, will come back to finish up our little hop in Ireland.

Nearly island green umber 17, with a tough pin to stick guarded by sand and a steep hill up front, but requiring a 3 iron to take the green with a tight front placed pin. Good luck!

WorldSwing Week 46
Second Weekly Venue
Kilcairn Bay

This is a quick makeup pair of rounds, moving back to week 46. I forgot to play the second venue, which is the very lovely and very challenging Charlie Roberts (I miss you buddy!), design of a fictional course in Scotland. This one was released Jan 2012 and meets Charlie's standards of a beautiful course design, great layout, awesome overheads and a high level of difficulty. 7077 yards, par 72, and the suggestion is to play it in winds.

Well, thankfully, those winds didnt really show up this weekend, or I would have been frustrated indeed. The greens have some extreme bumps to negotiate, and you will often strike the ball with Mr. Texas Wedge and pray.

Brad, this was, by far, Charlie's best course and provides some of the hardest holes we get to play. Like you, I miss my little (email) conversations with Charlie.

Cheers

Brad

WorldSwing Week 49
First Venue
Finnigan's Run

This was announced as Warren Lamshed's 15th course, and his first links style course. Release was Feb 2002, and he did a phenomenal job of capturing the feel of this style. 7121 yards and par 71. Its fictional, and keeps us in Ireland in real style.

Hole 18, par 5, from the green back down the fairway, with a nice building complex to the right.

Approach shot on par 4 number 5, with custom building work ahead. The ruined structure is a really nice touch.

Ha ha ha! And you can change that statement to three straight outstanding courses by fantastic designers, because I just played my first round of two on your Cobblechase, circa 2001 :)

Tarheel, I appreciate that but honestly, Cobblechase is not in the same category as Kilcairn Bay and Finnigan's Run. Those two are excellent designs and Cobblechase was designed in my learning phase but hopefully you can recognize the improvements I've made. LOL

WorldSwing Week 49
Second Venue
Cobblechase

For the last stop in Ireland we tee off at the early Steve Holden project Cobblechase dated 7/3/2001. Though Steve considers it one of his learning courses, I think it already shows sophistication in the upper field of designers. Sure, his designs now are out of the world, but even this, 23 years ago, is a fun golf course and very pleasant to look at. The layout is varied and there are challenges to keep it interesting. It is a fantasy course, par 72, 7274 yards. Maybe Steve needs to revisit Ireland one day to come full circle with something he would be more satisfied with???

Thanks Tarheel. Twenty three years ago....................whew! I guess you could say I have a lot of experience but much more importantly is the fact that I've enjoyed this game for so many years.

WorldSwing Week 50
First Venue
Quinta do Lago South v3

First course in the Iberian peninsula of Europe, and John Bernard makes it worth the visit. Here at Quinta do Lago South v3, all 7197 yards are natural and put you at the real course. The course has three versions, but the v3 we are playing has winds reflecting the 'original intent' as he says. This version was released in 2003, along with Quinta do Lago North (which we will not be playing on this tour). I only have credit listed to a handful of courses from John, and its too bad we didnt get more.

I added an earlier version of Quinta do Lago South to the downloads folder today which I presume to be v2, but please note it is NOT the version we are playing. Here is the old version:
