Yeah, I Guess I'm quitting.
Yeah, I Guess I'm quitting.
I've had enough.
I concede.
I've messed around, unu-installed/installed so many times.
Stupid thing still isn't working.
Can't be bothered any more.
Game recognises stock courses only.
Manager won't install anything any more.
Courses and libraries are in the Sierra folder but the game wwon't pick them up.
Cloaker will not run at all.
Only the architect seeming to work.
Too much papain for too little gain.
I quit!

Re: Yeah, I Guess I'm quitting.
Pol,
I really have no clue what is wrong. It sounds like you might have one or more corrupted registry entries. You might try a system restore back to a point when things were working right... Just a thought.

Restore 'failed' each time.
Re: Yeah, I Guess I'm quitting.
when you reinstalled the game, what was the source of your software? CDs? Download from our site?
There are a couple known problems with OCX files when you install using the software downloaded from this site.... This is discussed in the "technical help" area under 339 run time error...

Re: Yeah, I Guess I'm quitting.
Installing from original CD's.
I just remebered, my troubles seemed to have started after I DL'ed DIGUELO's COURSE COLLATOR.
Could that be causing my troubles?

Re: Yeah, I Guess I'm quitting.
Never installed it though, just looked at the instructions and decided it wasn't for me.
Re: Yeah, I Guess I'm quitting.
Game is now not recognising any course other than stock courses that came with the game, although it is recognising custom libraries.
I really don't know what to do.

Re: Yeah, I Guess I'm quitting.
no, the course collator wouldnt have anything to do with this problem.
question: after reinstalling the software (which includes the stock courses), did you reinstall the custom courses? The game is not going to recognize those courses unless you rebuild the registry entries by reinstalling the courses.

Re: Yeah, I Guess I'm quitting.
Dar,
I have uninstalled/reinstalled about 5 times over the last 3 days.
I am deleting everything from the Sierra folder before reinstalling.I copied all my custom courses and librbaies to a different tempory folder, and after each reinstalation, I have been trying to install them to the game using the course manager.
I have even DL'ed course from the website and trried installing them through the course manager.
After each reinstalation, I am still getting the course manager fault where there are blank entries in the manager with no course name showing (see original post in technical section), a further development now is that my PC will not recognise any courses or librbraries, I am showing a plain icon for each, instead of the minature course manager icon for eack file.
Up until the last install, the architect was still working.
I really don't want to quit on this game, been with it since the start and my first home PC, but it's looking like it's time to let go.
Thanks for showing some interest, looks like there isn''t the technical know how left around here any more, and there are only about 4 people who post on the forum boards now anyway.
What's the next best PC golf game to move on to anyone?

Re: Yeah, I Guess I'm quitting.
First, let me say I certainly appreciate having you around here - insightful, help to the community and a great designer.
Next, I am guessing that your issue has something to do with the registry and programs that adapt it or adjust it to your needs. This could be the program itself (the install of it from CD or from the website), a registry cleaner, repair program, the CL tool, maybe even the collator if that works with what the registry reads.
The course manager works with the registry, but it also works with OCX files as does the main engine so this as Dar pointed out is a distinct possibility - even if it never was an issue before. If you are using a new laptop or a newer install of Windows then you did before, check to make sure the proper OCX and other native Windows libraries are there. Google the files listed in the forum post and read about the trouble other users have had with the disappearance of those files and see if anything relates to your issues.
I would also check into the swap files and how the program uses them - not sure but that also might relate in your case. All of the major issues with the game in the past have always come down to registry, OCX and other Windows files, swap files or local computer trouble. The engine is solid and continues to run on Windows 8.
If you use the Wayback machine at the Internet archive you can access web pages that are no longer on the web - archived pages from the past. Try pulling up the Course Depot or the Copyright Club and see if past forum posts shed light on your issue. Ancient and Fab were always good at pinpointing issues and their past advice might trigger a thought.
I hope this helps because there is no other golf game out there like PGA!
