Need direction in uploading a file

Post by sandwedge »

I have this list of golfers that my girls and I use that I would like to share with the community. It is a list of 180 ATG male pro golfers. We normalized statistical categories and then made the adjustment to their career stats or stats we could find on them. We then made another adjustment to the putting figures to compensate for the known fault in the computer AI in this area. The result is a list of golfers that score well and are quite competitive to play against. We also have a list of 94 ATG LPGA golfers that we did the same thing with. The only difference with the ladies is that we have them set to tee off from the professional tees instead of the championship tees. My girls use the LPGA list and I use the PGA/World of Golf list when playing solitaire. I have got to say that at this point the girls and I have really enjoyed this game - we have designed courses together, made these lists and a few containing famous figures for fun, played against each other and other family at get togethers. Who knew the mileage I would have got out of this game when I bought it 10 years ago?! :)

So my question is - how do I go about submitting a file (need step by step and protocol)? Does someone here need to approve the files before they are posted? Is anybody even interested in these trivial items being made available? I may never release one of our course designs to the public but I don't want to be a taker from the community either. I wish to let the folks here know my appreciation for keeping this thing going in some way.

Directions for uploading are here: http://www.golfsimclubhouse.com/pga2000/upload.htm

The current process is all files are uploaded to a temporary folder using the provided program. Then you send an e-mail to Dar and he makes sure they are properly zipped and puts them in the appropriate folder. He also maintains a spreadsheet that is sort of like a database of all the files we have for download here. Finally he notifies me and I update the appropriate webpages to make the files visible for download. If you have any specific questions let me know.

Ok, not sure if this went the way it was supposed to but here is what I did. I dragged the 2 folders with the player files in them and a pdf file of explanation into the window of the upload program. It sent the 180 files from one folder and 94 files from the other folder individually. Was I supposed to zip the files up first and then drag them to the window? I hope you can sort it out - sent an email to Dar as you said to. Let me know.

Sw, here's something else you can try if you want. Put your golfers into folders with appropriate names, like "ATG Men 2011" and "ATG Women 2011." Zip and upload. These can then be downloaded and dropped directly into the PGA2K "Players" folder where they'll show up as a list of available players.

Ok. I thought I might have needed to zip the files before uploading. I will try again. Hopefully, Dar will not get too upset and sort it all out. Boy, I need to get up to speed on uploading files - first time ever for me

This is a free file-sending service that I've used for several years, because frankly, I've never been able to get this sites uploader to work:

http://www.yousendit.com/compare-plans

Sign up for the free plan.

In order to send the ATG golfers files, you would do the following (you'll need Dar's e-mail addy):
1. Put your zipped golfer files into another zipped folder with a name like "PGA golfers.zip." I usually move the file to my desktop so I can find it easily.
2. Open the "yousendit" site with your user name (e-mail addy) and password
3. On the top line, click on "send."
4. Enter Dar's addy, subject and message. (I usually add my own addy so I can make sure the e-mail has been sent.)
5. Click "select file" then on your "PGAgolfers" file.
6. When the box comes up, click on "no thanks." Your file is now being sent.
7. Keep the window open until the download is complete. It's pretty quick; assuming your file will be pretty small it should take a minute or so.

I love using this site. It's quick, easy, free! and have never had any problems with it.

I got the All Time Great (ATG) player files from Sandwedge and have prepared them for installation into the utilities area.

There are two zip files
all_time_great_players_men_2011.zip
all_time_great_players_women_2011.zip

Each of the above zip files contains a copy of the pdf file explaining the player creation rationale.

All files have been turned over to Brian for final installation on the server.

Glad to hear it - thanks a lot Dar. I hope the files will be of use to our community here - feel free to disagree with our rationale as I doubt it will hurt our feelings.

If it makes these players more consistent in their short game you've got my full backing. I think those of us who enjoy season play thank you for your effort to broaden that aspect of the game.

I don't know if the lists will do that but they will provide a little history of the game for those who are not aware of all the great men and lady golfers of the past. If nothing else you have 274 player files that you don't have to create yourself but can tweak to your liking. :) We are running an ATG match play elimination with the lists. We are starting with the LPGA list and will use the men's list afterwards. We split the 94 golfers into 3 brackets of 30 and then dumped our names into a bracket with the remaining 4 ladies. The odds of one of us taking the smaller bracket are much better that way  I thought about maybe posting our results - have to see what the girls think. They might object - especially if I actually look like I will take that smaller bracket :) My game has improved so I am hopeful - my stroke average is finally under 69, my putting is solid and my approach game has vastly improved so I am looking forward to competing. Of course if I win this thing, not sure if I will tell anyone about it cause after all I am competing against 2 real women and 94 simulated women - no guys in the bunch but me  But hey, if Annika can crash the men's tour they ought to let me crash the lady's tournament - no wait a minute what am I saying?!
