Re: Robert Wagers
I had Doctor appt today (on sunday) and my Dr. had plenty of time for me. I took the opportunity to ask some pretty tough questions.
1. Right now I have to avoid UV light. Will this be forever or just a certain period of time?
answer: "You will have to avoid UV exposure for the rest of your life!"
2. So, I will never be able to play golf again or work in my yard?
answer: "You could do it early in the morning or late in the evening. Nothing "mid-day!"
3. Right now I am almost 42yrs. old. What is the liklihood of my living to seeing the age of 82?
answer: Not very good! Most people develope "secondary siseases." Like heart, lung, and liver problems.
4. I thought this transplant was supposed to be "a cure," was I wrong?
answer: "The transplant is gonna to cure your MDS, but the toll it puts on the rest of your body is the issue. I am VERY DEPRESSED! It's like all my hope just flushed down the toilet!
So, as of today, I am commiting myself to living every day as if it were "my last!"

Well Bob,
Two things you should keep in mind:
1. Doctors have been known to be wrong.
2. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Wagers! I realize what the doc. said wasn't all rosey and positive. But he didn't say you wouldn't have many years of a good life to live. You may hopefully someday still be able to golf (9 holes)in the early morning. Use a good umbrella, where a hat, no shorts. You just have to be careful, limit yourself and live until your 81.

Re: Robert Wagers
I might have to buy a pool table or take-up bowling!!!!
I've been playing real golf since I was 10yrs old and I can't imagine never playing again!
I just don't like the idea of "hiding in a cave" the rest of my life!
The bright-side of this: the success of the transplant will give me more years than I would have had otherwise. If my MDS progressed into AML, I would not survive very long!

Re: Robert Wagers
was at the hospital 12hrs today. Ny bloodcounts fell and I needed 2-units of blood! The doctor said it could be fom:
1. an interaction of all the drugs I'm taking.
2. A strange (uncommon) viral infection.
3. The transplant simply isn't working.

Re: Robert Wagers
I just hope it is one of the first two possibilities... those are fixable.

Bob, I suggest you move to Scotland; they haven't played golf in the sun there for centuries!
I'm sorry to hear these things, Bob. Anything I might say would be trite in the face of what you're experiencing.
