Questions, questions, questions

Post by Indy Anna Jones »

My subject heading is definitely not intended as a knock against Stillgolfing/Dave's questions. I'm thinking how fortunate I was to be able to play on WON 10 years ago when I started playing PGA99 and how grateful I am to the patient people who answered my questions and showed me how to do a lot of things we're trying to explain to Dave.

I was wondering though, would it be possible/legal to copy the game portion of the PGA Manual and post it as a downloadable pdf file? I know there's a lot of info available by clicking the "help" button in the toolbar above the main game screen, but maybe this would also be helpful. Or is it just flogging a worn out horse (assuming it's legal)?

I would think it's OK.
Sierra gave up on PGA. :/

It's been very refreshing to see Stillgolfing's questions recently, reminding me of the early days on Sierra's Tee-Time forum and the Copyright Club. After a number of years not playing very much and only occasionally messing around with the architect, it showed me just how much I had forgotten!

I wholeheartedly agree JJ. I hope it's clear that I'm not aggravated by the questions; I just wish there was an easier way to answer them or even better, demonstrate live some of the things we've learned over the years. Frankly I wish we had 100 more like him!! :nod:

Judy;
Thanks for going to bat on my behalf. I think I'm happy and comfortable at the level I'm playing at; so no biggy if it can't be done. The reason I responded here is I also would like to post a PDF, but wasn't sure if it was like any other file (say .jpgs, which I have previously posted).
I just played Muirfield 2011 for Links2003 and Steve Horn's PGA2000 version, alternately shot by shot. One can do that if you have both sims and both courses installed. Believe me, It doesn't get any better than that. :D I have some screen shots and real course photos for comparison, plus comments and I thought I would put it all together in a PDF, if anyone is interested? I intend to use E for excellent for the best courses. when I eventually start reviewing/rating PGA2000 designs and the already long established Ace for Links. Both courses get top marks as far as I'm concerned. However, there were several holes that, other than the basic layout, you wouldn't know you were playing the same course.
Cheers, Dave

Dave! Interesting that you were able to play a Links version and my latest version of Muirfield Village. I'm glad you were able to notice some of the changes to the course over the years. You may also notice that the panos are probably much different. There are some liberties that you have to consider when using the architect. No course is 100% accurate when it comes to a real rendition. You just try to get it as close as possible with what you have to work with plus some things like plantings of flowers and some other plants change on an annual basis. I hope you read my notes on the course. It will give you some more insight. GLAD YOU LIKED IT.

You did a really great job on this course Steve, and being a retired writer and artist, I can easily understand the need for some creative liscence when designing something this complex. Basically , after I had played both courses and reviewed the available actual course photos, it appeared to me the real course was somewhere between the two. However, as I stated previously both renditions were exceptional, and I'm sure all golf simulation addicts will appreciate this free overdose! :bg:
Cheers Dave

Dave! I wouldn't assume that any pictures you saw on Muirfields web page or any other are recent. As a matter of fact when I was doing the updated version they had the same photos posted from when I first did the course several years ago.

Yes, I think you are right on that Steve. I followed a link to Muirfield for the "Redesign of the 16th Hole Comparison" and just assumed the pics of the other holes had been updated also, but obviously they haven't.
Thanks, Dave
