I grasp the handicap and understand what you are saying about the Stableford scores. I'm assuming the Stableford scores listed are the actual scores for each golfer. Is this correct? In other words Juan is in first place and you are in last place or am I looking at this all wrong.BradTheDad wrote: ↑February 22nd, 2025, 6:17 pm Hi Steve,
the handicap system works off a rather complicated formula I developed, applied to your Stroke scores. As you play your first eight rounds it is calculated on the average score across the rounds you have played. After you have played eight rounds your handicap is based on the best eight Stroke scores from the rounds you have played. Once you have played twenty rounds, the handicap going forward is based on the best eight Stroke scores of the previous twenty rounds you have played. Your handicap is added to your Stroke score to determine your Handicap score. The calculations are similar to the way actual handicaps are calculated, adjusted for the fact that some players are regularly hitting in the fifties (which are unrealistic scores), to give you a more realistic outcome compared to par and taking into account the differing abilities of all players.
A far as the Stableford score goes, depending on your handicap, you get additional shots added to the par of the hardest holes, as determined by the handicap for each hole set by the designer of the course. For example, if your handicap is twelve, you get one extra shot on each of the twelve hardest holes. For example, if the fifth hardest hole is a Par 4, it would now have a handicap par of 5. Depending on what the handicap par is, you are then allocated Stableford points (1,2,3 and so on) based on the Stroke score you shot on that hole against the Handicap par (eg, 2 points for a par, 1 for a bogey, 3 for a birdie). The better you score against the handicap par, the more Stableford points you get.
Hope that all makes sense.
Cheers
Brad

Hi Steve,
as far as the Stableford scores go, as you get more points per hole the better you play it, the higher your Stableford points are for the whole round the better. So, in Rd 1 at McCall Cumhann, I came first with 36 points and Juan came fifth with 29 points. The highlighted scores indicate the winners in each round and for each tournament. Sorry, I should have explained the meaning of the yellow highlighting earlier.
Cheers

Here's my first round at Riverdale. Hit the wrong button so my name is not associated with the score. I love Warrens work as an elite designer he is great but my inexperience playing different courses came in full view with Riverdale. I needed an Australian Trail Guide to find the fairways. I literally did a 360 degree on hole #4 and still couldn't figure out where to hit the damn thing. Hopefully I'll get better at reading the layouts.

Correct!Brad, then I came in second with 35?
Re: Old Timers Competition 2024
LOL. Obviously my handicap is helping this along with the limited number of rounds. I'm having fun with it though!

Hi Guys,
here's my Rd 4 file for you. They say it's better to be lucky than good and I had more than my fair share of luck this round. After an eagle on the Par 4 2nd hole, I got the bounce of a lifetime on 7, which turned my very ordinary approach shot into a gimmie.
Cheers

Re: Old Timers Competition 2024
Hi Guys,
well, we've completed our first tournament for 2025. We had a few winners in the individual rounds (just as it should be) and an extremely close outcome in the overall scores. Sundance has had a good introduction to our little group, showing that he will be very competitive, especially when his handicap settles down with more rounds played and he gets used to his new swing speed.
Here are the results:

Just waiting on Juan to pick two of Don MacFarlane's great courses and we can move on.
Cheers

Re: Old Timers Competition 2024
Hi Guys,
Juan has selected a couple of excellent Don Macfarlane courses for us to play in our third tournament of 2025. He has asked me to select the conditions under which we will play. While he indicated that he likes playing off the black tees, I think playing some different tees is also very interesting and a bit more fun. Don, as the designer, even suggests that you try the blue tees on Busch Hollow.
So, here we go:

Rd1: Medium/Hard/Pin 1/Black Tee
Rd 2: Medium/Normal/Pin 4/Blue Tee

Rd 3: Mild/Soft/Pin 2/Black Tee
Rd 4: Medium/Normal/Pin 3/White Tee
Enjoy
