Re: Old Timers Competition 2024
Thanks Randy. We got Kirby and the little man out of hospital today. They are going to stay at our place for a week or so, in order that Kirby can recover from her surgery. Robyn and I are thrilled. With a bit of luck, I may be able to fit some golf in on the Old Timers Tour.
Cheers

Re: Old Timers Competition 2024
Hi Guys,
just watched Juan's Rd 1 and Tarheel's Rds 2 and 3, while Robyn, Kirby and little Austin are all having a well earned nap.
Juan put in a very solid round in medium winds in Rd 1, with only one small blemish on Hole 11. With his handicap, rounds like this keep him well in contention for Handicap and Stableford Honours. Keep it up Juan!
If you want to have a good score, getting fifteen 3's on your scorecard is a nice way to do it. That's what Tarheel did in Rd 2, with a magnificent round of 55. Now that's some golf!
I'm sure he feels he left a few out on the course in Rd 3, but as we see every week with the pros, it's hard to back-up after such a low round.
Hopefully, I will be able to get a few rounds in soon, but Grand-Parent duties do come first.
Cheers

First two rounds at Indian Cypress Resorts. Tough course for my shaky accuracy hitting the bottom blue.

Re: Old Timers Competition 2024
Hi Guys, just watched Galen's first two rounds at Indian Cypress Resort and I think it is fair to say that, in each round, one part of his game let him down at times. In Rd 1, he drove the ball consistently well, but then for most of the round failed to take advantage of his good drives by not putting his approach shot close enough to guarantee the birdie. This changed after the 13th hole, when all of a sudden he started nailing the pins, to gallop home with four straight birdies from 14 to 17.
In Rd 2, his driver started going a little wayward, but his approach shots got him out of trouble, leaving him close enough to get the birdie or salvage a par from a difficult lie off the tee. Again, he finished with some aplomb, finishing out the round with three straight birdies, including on the tough 18th.
There's some very good signs there for some really competitive scores going forward.
I played along with Galen's Rd 2, and am extremely happy with the outcome. Sooner or later this run of low scores has to come to an end.
I've been fiddling around with the scoring systems, but I think it will take a few tournaments before I can really tell if my logic is logical.
Cheers

Hi Guys,
just played my Rd 3 against Galen and Tarheel and what and amazing contest it was. I predicted
I'm not astounded Galen, as I predicted it, but I am impressed. Keep it up!
With his handicap of 6, this score has almost certainly gained him an early lead in both FedUP Cup competitions. Let's see if he can keep it up!
In recognition of his great score, he wins the honour of picking our next courses and conditions.
Cheers

Re: Old Timers Competition 2024
Wow guys, you inundated me with rounds.
I watched Randy's first two rounds against Galen's and it is clear that Randy is not going to let Galen run away with any of the events this year.
In Rd 1 Randy got off to a flier, posting an early four shot lead. From there on in it was tit for tat, with Randy holding his advantage to the end.
In Rd 2, it was much closer. Randy again got off to a good start, but Galen fought back and there was nothing in it at the turn. To and fro the lead went through the back nine, with the result being "Match All Squared, Gentlemen". Thank you linesmen, thank you ball boys!
In Rd 3 we had a group of four, Tarheel, Randy, Galen and myself, and what a contest it turned out to be. I think it is fair to say that Randy's driver went a little haywire a few times over the course of these three rounds. But, by playing some terrific recovery shots he managed to save par or birdie the hole, from some very precarious positions. The sign of a true Champion. The scoring in this round was exceptional, and but for a couple of lip outs to Tarheel late in the round, we could have had a four way tie. As it was, we had three 58's and a 60. Now that is sort of competition I enjoy watching!
I also watched Galen's Rd 4 in isolation and what a commendable round this was in strong winds. All the excitement was on the green, with some missed short putts, some great long putts and some lip outs. With a smidgen of luck, this round could easily have been four or five shots better.
Thanks gents, most enjoyable.
I will post the first round results tomorrow, as I have to go and hold of my little Grand-Son now. Life is good!
Cheers
