Quite a change of direction for the USGA venue wise.

Here's an overhead view. Another great public course to challenge the best in the world. A first time for the U.S.Open in the far northwest.

Reminds me a bit of my Arcadia Bluffs. Looks really beautiful and challenging; I'm looking forward to it.

Well, now we've seen the course play for 2 days, what do we think?
Sometimes I think all that's missing is a clown face and a windmill hole, a'la crazy golf.
I someone had uploaded a similar design here, I wonder what sort of reviews it would have gotten?

Chambers Bay is a unique course that's for sure. I think the greens are better then how they look but are wicked on a few holes. I think the main problem is the general public has a difficult time at Chambers Bay. Two hundred feet in overall elevation changes and some holes basically unviewable without binoculars is bad for any tour stop. Some changes are needed if they want to host a Major in the future.

Watching this course has had me scratching my head, because it reminds me so much of a course I played in real life. It finally hit me that the course I was thinking of is in the Pinehurst area. It's called Tobacco Road.....and guess what? We have it on PGA 2000! It was either Aaron or Rattlesnake (still Aaron) that released it, but it finally struck me that it looks like how Tobacco Road played in real life. So I'm going to crank the green speed all the way up and hit Tobacco Road!!

Recently disovered Tobacco Road whilst playing Dar's A listers.
Can't believe I've been playing this game for 10 years+ and only found this course last 3 months.
ITS AWESOME.

.... what do we think?

Have to agree somewhat Pols, saw some early round stuff, then only tuned in for the close. Something wasn't right, not sure what but it seemed to lack authenticity or character perhaps, felt invented as opposed to 'designed around'. Allowing for our links bias of course, the best I can compare to was when going up the 'Eiffel tower' in Vegas, it didn't creak like the original.
