The Secret to PGA2000

This week, after creating a player for my wife (Standard) I played against her (so that we would be competative) with my old Advanced player. The one that I was never able to use due to the swing meters speed at the Advanced level ( I have played Standard for a year now , but was finding it frustrating for a number of reasons). During this game, I inadvertanly discovered "The Secret".
Just curious, but I was wondering why "The Secret" wasn't detailed here in a "stickey" or an easily searchable post? It would. in my opinion, convince those new members who might initially be frustrated with the games playability, to stick with it.
Cheers, Dave
P.S -Really enjoying the game now that I have discovered "The Secret" :)

I don't know of any so called SECRETS in PGA 2000. Practice or just playing frequently is the best way to improve and find your rythem. Also I've discovered a type of mouse and mouse pad and settings for your mouse can have a big effect if you use Tru swing.

The secret for me is that on those days when my timing is really good and I'm seeing the distances without having to do many mental calculations I shoot well. On the days that they're not I don't shoot well. I'm not sure what "the secret" is you're talking about so please share it!

I can't tell you ................. It's a secret! :)

Just kidding.
Basically I was already aware that initially when you create a player at say the Standard level, the game assigns your clubs certain distances and as you player gaines experience these distances gradually increase. Also your player initially can't hit any where near the distance assigned to the club. but again after a number of holes or rounds he will evetually be able to hit consistantly longer than the noted club distance. What I hadn't noticed before was also as these changes in club distances occur with experience, the swing meter gradually slows down (The Secret). I discovered this the other day when I created a Standard Player for my wife to use. To be competative while she was learning, I activated my old Advance player who I stopped using because the swing meter was crazy fast and hence it was tough (due to penalties and unplayable lies) to even complete a hole never mind a course. Anyway, when we started playing it turned out her swing meter was crazy fast also. We sort of hacked around for awhile trying to make a reasonable shot, and then I thought, why not include my regular Standard player and see if he is easier to use ('cause I knew he had a slower swing meter). As it turned out my wife was able to play OK with my Standard player and I stuck with the Advanced player. Amazingly as I persevered with my player the noted club distances increased as did the actual distance I could hit (D2 = 270yds has risen to 277 and my actual distance has gone from about 250 to 270) and the swing meter had slowed to the point where I could at least get close enough to the bars that I'm in the fringe or the first cut. Now I have completed 3 rounds and have about 30 additional odd holes of experience and on one of the flatter easier courses I managed a 2 over, which is what I have averaged at the Standard level this past year. Also the carry vs roll out is quite realistic (long carry/short rollout) at the Advanced level whereas in Standard mode it's not (short carry/long rollout), So once the distances and swing meter rationalize it's much easier to play Advanced.
Cheers, Dave

Hmm, as far as distance goes I found the opposite (clicking.) With a new player I'd get an extra 20-30 yards and gradually (over say 20-30 holes) it'd fall back to the club length shown while mousing over it, but that was okay by me because my distance might vary but it'd be consistent. I never really noticed a difference in meter speed but that might be because I was focusing on trying to figure out the distance. When I started I played maybe a game on standard then went right to advanced because shots were longer and it had the wind effect. I don't think Nicklaus Signature had wind so that was a new feature to me.

You can get extra yardage also by using the setup to lower your loft; it bores through the wind better and has more bounce on the landing.

Anyway I'm glad it's working out for you. It's hard to enjoy playing if the mechanics are kicking your butt.

Do you think this is the same secret Ben Hogan found?
