The most difficult short 18-hole course in the world is the 4,785-yard, par-65 Strathpeffer Spa Golf Club in the Highlands of Scotland. The course record is only 60. The course runs up and down the side of a mountain.

The first golf course ever constructed in the United States was Oakhurst Links Golf Club in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia in 1884. It no longer exists.
