WorldSwing Week 45
First Weekly Venue
St. Andrews 2007

We are now in the home of the links and have crossed the pond. Welcome to St Andrews 2007 from the king of the links, Jay Johnson. This is really a fantastic course, and brings the event to life, with the customs and the sounds of competition. You cannot play this course too many times.

Honorable mention to the other St Andrews course from 2000 by KF Baker. It is also a really well done design, but you just can't beat this 2007 version!

You do not want to get into these bunkers short of the par 3 number 8. When you are in them, you have a blind shot to the flag.

April's Orchard

Remaining in Scotland a bit longer, we get to spend time at April's Orchard which is a 1999 creation by Kent Sullivan. This one is 7520 yards, par 72 and will present you with sand traps and slopes right where you don't want them. Changing default club choices is a must to avoid the drama. Overall, this is a really open course and he did a great job with the design and variety to avoid it looking very samey.

Enjoy some other of his designs such as:
Anatnom
Linus Island
Saragosa
Valle de los Montanas

Drimloch's Golf Club

Hanging out in Scotland, please enjoy with me a couple of rounds at Galen Geier's really great Drimloch's Golf Club. This one continues a string of really fantastic JN6 courses I've been playing recently. Everything has been carefully placed to make a wonderful 18, with plenty of wildlife and even perhaps a legend along the way...

This was my first time playing this course, and it will certainly NOT be the last!

WorldSwing Week 46
PGA Signature Event
The British Open: Royal Troon

Great timing for Terry Armstrong to give us a great Prestwick recently, which I added to the tour next week, because the British Open is being played at his Royal Troon, designed for GBC in 2002. Terry has given us so many real courses for JN6, that the game would not be the same without his designs. This one was fun, and there are a nice mix of easier holes with some devious ones. It should be fun to watch this weeks event on TV, after having played this one.

The Goodfellas Golf Club

At last, the WS tour resumes!

When last seen, the tour disappeared in the UK after celebrating the British Open, but finally coming out of a local pub literally months later...we find ourselves on week 47, very off schedule, but right where we should be.

We are at the masterpiece The Goodfellas GC From TS Mueller, created 6/2/2001. The scene is Welsh sheep country, and is really immersive. The course was created for the "W.C.G.C. Goodfellas team." according to the intro, but I don't really know the history or meaning of this. The second page talks about Al Peters, who I think ran the group in question, who asked our designer to make a course for the World Matchplay tournament. This one is 6737 yards, par 72, and has a great mix of holes to challenge.

I'm proud to have chosen this one to bring back to light!

One of several really neat par 3's. This one is number 9, with a few sheep nearby.

Number 3, par 4. A severe dogleg right, with chance to take a dangerous direct hit over water at the green. Here, a golfer took the safe approach down the fairway to lob into the green.
