During the 1926 British Open, Bobby Jones forgot his badge that enabled him to enter the grounds so he could compete. He tried to get through the gate, but an official turned him away. Jones simply went to the public entrance and bought a ticket. Of course, he won the championship.

There have been metaphors for how gently a golf club should be held, how light the pressure should be on the handle. Foe example, hold it as if it were an overripe tomato, or a balloon you don't want to pop. But Jimmy Demeret, who wore extremely colorful clothes to match his sunny personality and sensual nature, had the most memorable: "Hold the club as though it were the girl you want to marry."
