Just Curious (HD Monitors)

Post by stillgolfing »

I was wondering, since inexpensive large HD LCD monitors have come with new PC's over that past few years, how PGA 2000 displays on these ( I still am using a 21" Sony Standard LCD monitor). Do you view PGA 2000 with black bars down the sides or do the monitors have options like HD TVs to manipulate a standard picture into something approximating widescreen? On my HDTV , partial zoom works OK; as it retains the correct proportions by cutting off the top and bottom of the picture. I'm guessing that wouldn't work with PGA 2000, because that is where all the important game selections are.

I use a 23" Samsung Syncmaster monitor and it is great for the game... No black bars on the sides or top and all menus display just fine on the top and bottom.

Most modern monitors today are rectangular. In my case, the height is 11.25" and the width is about 20". On the diagonal, it measures 23".

If you calculate the ratio of Height/Width you get a ratio. In my case 11.25"/20" = .5625
For things to look right, I need to pick a resolution that approximates that ratio.
I have my settings at 1360 x 768. 768/1360 = .564

I could pick another resolution, but I would need to pick one that maintains that ratio for my monitor to look right
