My all time fave computer has died

Post by Terry Grayson »

Well it finally happened.... My favorite computer....One I bought way back around 2000 finally met its demise last saturday.....

I was rebuilding another computer for my mother in law.... I unplugged mine (KNEW IT WAS A MISTAKE) and worked on hers and built it....I plugged mine back up..every light on the front
would light up, fan spins but nada! Nothing... I fiddled with it for a while.... finally nothing happened...No spinning no lights (cept for the tiny one on the motherboard)

I thought Ok, bad Power supply...just happened to have one, put it in, NOTHING.... tried every trick I know.... I finaly deducted it had to be the motherboard...(I hope) (Hard drive is fine, everything else is too, ive tested them)

So I went on a feverish search.... Finally found a motherboard matching exactly what I have...Has the cpu and the heat sink fan on it...Just waiting on it to get here... BTW this is my PGA machine too
I luckily back up everything all the time, but I just want my old standby computer back! Ive been through years with that rascal upgraded it here and there.... Just my old buddy!!!!!

So hopefully I will once again resurrect this old friend from another demise like I have a few other times.... If not it looks like Ill be buying a new one (wife has already said, JUST BUY ONE)..... NO maam I will not
this is my friend..... I shall try everything to bring it back! lol...

Wish me luck motherboard should be here Monday or tues....

Hopefully my old VPR MAtrix 1800 will live again with its blazing fast 1.6 processer and 1 gig of ram! HA!!!!!

Lol... I know what you mean Terry.
I just hauled a couple old computers to the recycle yard. Brought a tear to my eye  , but sometimes, you just have to let them go peacefully.

ITS ALIVE ITS ALIVE!!!

Got the new motherboard, plugged it all in and BOOM NOTHING!!! no fan spinning nothing.... So I started some testing on the power supply and even had a spare...NOTHING.... Come to find out, not only was both power supplies bad, but the motherboard, was burned up too..(Processer).... I finally got a third power supply
hooked it up and fan spun (ok 1 good thing happened) I hooked everything up and I immediately got a 3 beep code at post... Memory my motherboard specs said...

so apparantly whatever happened got my PSU, Motherboard AND my memory!!! I ordered two sticks of memory yesterday morning for 31 bucks, Had them overnighted at 31 bucks LOL and it just came...put it all back together and BOOM here I am...

My old friend lives for another day.....Can you say HAPPY!!!!!!

And Cindy wanted to buy a new one...SHEESH!! lol I got out at about 98 bucks to fix this old dinosaur...Worth it probably not, but my old friend is kicking again!!

Time for a round of Golf I imagine....

later...
