Re: Old Timers Competition

Hi Guys,

I just watched Tarheel's Rd 2 against Randy, Galen and myself, and there was some terrific golf played. I think Tarheel was being a bit tough on himself when he said he went a little cold on the back nine, as he was only one shot worse than his front nine. The scores so far, particularly in the Handicap and Stableford events, are very close, and as I've said before, I believe these are the truest markers of our golfing abilities in this great game.

I will also reiterate what a beautiful course Prospect Pass is. It is challenging, but it is so well crafted and pleasant to look at, who wouldn't want to play a round or three around this gem.

Thanks Steve!

Cheers

Brad

PS: On our selection cycle, it is Tarheel's turn to choose our next challenging courses and conditions.

Gladly! We're headed to the West Coast and Canada for the next adventures. I will post conditions and my first round midweek.

I am choosing these two courses, because I feel both of them get forgotten in favor of their bigger brother courses of similar name.

Hi Guys,

just watched Galen's Rd 3 and, as he said, it was definitely thrown off track by the 16th. Still, it was good enough to have him leading the Handicap and Stableford events for this round, with Randy and Juan still to submit their third round files.

Here's how it stands at the moment.

Cheers

Brad

Hi Guys,

just watched the new look Randy take on Galen in what was a titanic struggle, right up until Galen's unfortunate drive on 16.

Also, I have to make an apology to Galen, as a mathematical mistake I made indicated that he was leading the Handicap and Stableford events in Rd 3. Unfortunately, I accidentally gave him three extra shots on his handicap, which I have now corrected.

Sorry mate. My bad!

Cheers

All conditions posted for the next series. No rush!

Round 1 at Gregoire South. Playing from advanced tees creates challenges I'm not used to and I definitely made a few mental mistakes. As Zip used to say, this is a roller coaster course with its hilly fairways. This is a really fun challenge and you need to be careful!

Hi Guys,

just played my first round at Gregoire South with Tarheel.

As he said, this course is really nice, but is very tricky off the white tees, if you don't think about what shot you are going to play. I think I hit the fewest number of drivers I have ever hit in a round. Also, I was very fortunate that I played a lot of my approaches after Tarheel, particularly on the back nine, as I got to see the pitfalls that he suffered, and made appropriate adjustments to my shots.

The best pieces of advice I can give you are, use your camera to see what the terrain is like where you are planning on driving the ball to and don't get too cute with your approach shots, the middle of the green is just fine on these very undulating putting surfaces.

Here's my round if anybody wants to have a partner to play with.

Cheers

Brad

Went ahead and got a jump start today. Round 2 from the Blues. I tried to learn from round 1, taking a little bit more of a conservative approach on a few holes that lured me into trouble last time. Controlled golfing is the best way to put red numbers on your card here.

I really like this golf course. I enjoy the elevation changes and think the greens are fair given that you have excellent chances to get close to the pin (well, at least from the white and blue tees). I also think this course nicely complements the next course we will be playing even though they are 6 years apart and two different designers. I will definitely come here after the tournament and give her a try on the black tees.

Thats 32 golf courses that the Old Timers has visited, and I call that a successful tour so far Brad! As we play these courses, I like to think that we pay tribute to the hard work of the past and the artistry laboured over. Its much like visiting a famous art gallery and reflecting for a while. Believe it or not, while I'm out there pitching from a trap or under a tree in the rough on this game, I am comforted by the work and companionship present and past.
